It has been a busy four weeks! On May 9th, 24 of us departed our church parking lot for the 2015 "Beyond" mission trip (18-25 year olds, plus old goats like me as "advisors") to Clinton, SC to work with Thornwell Home for Children. We spent a week building two chicken coops for their free range operation providing food and income to the campus! The week was spectacular!
Then, just two weeks after returning from that trip, I boarded a bus with 37 other high school students and adult leaders to travel to Lilburn, GA to work with "A Brush With Kindness", a Habitat for Humanity organization, and Medshare, a re-distribution organization of medical supplies to poorer nations. Grueling, exhausting, exhilarating and humbling were both trips. I was blessed to be able to work side by side with all three of my children, two on the Beyond trip and the third on the high school trip. We all enjoyed the time with each other, doing God's work, spending time with God's children and getting closer to God. If you have never taken a mission trip, don't fear! While there are many wonderful programs that go to underprivileged nations such as Haiti and Guatemala, there are TONS of programs that operate right here in the USA! You don't have to travel to foreign countries to find need! If you are interested in giving your time and talents to help those in need but have no idea where or how to start, please contact me at [email protected] and I'd love to help you get started. You can even suggest your own congregation (large or small) support a mission trip program! It only takes a handful to get it started, then watch it grow! Be well! greg
